It is possible that the teacher can identify the weaknesses that the child has relative to the standards. Being able to hone on problem areas, along with the help from the teacher, will reinforce to the teacher that these are this particular students problem areas. Hopefully, this will address the areas that have issues in both the school setting and will also set up the parents to help in the appropriate areas of help and guidance at home. There could potentially be weekly individual updates that help parents gain insight into where there child is in relation to the standard and also what can be concentrated on by the parents at home. If the mother is a teacher, she should be able to utilize appropriate teaching techniques to help her student do better in school.
